Glasgow Cathedral 890

Following two years of independent research, 3D modelling and digital painting, James Fallan developed and launched a bespoke Virtual Reality installation recreating Bishop John’s Glasgow Cathedral, consecrated on 7 July 1136. The project debuted at Glasgow Cathedral as part of the historic Glasgow Cathedral 890 celebrations.

James was the sole researcher, 3D environment artist, painter and headset fabricator, bringing together considerable technical skill, creativity and academic rigour to reconstruct the medieval cathedral.

Importantly for FoCHK, James’s involvement with Campsie High Kirk, including his development of the Ghost Tower concept, helped provide a platform from which his talent could reach new audiences and opportunities. His subsequent work at Glasgow Cathedral is a tangible example of the wider value that can emerge when a heritage project creates opportunities for individuals to demonstrate and develop their skills.

This is precisely what FoCHK hopes Campsie High Kirk will do for others as the building is restored to its preferred design: creating opportunities for work experience, apprenticeships, traditional skills, creative practice and professional development, while allowing people to contribute directly to the renewal of an important historic place.
